Summer at Lista: Stories in Material
Over the course of four sessions, students will explore how different materials communicate stories, identity, and imagination through drawing, painting, fiber, and sculpture. The first week of each session will be spent introducing the materials at hand and exploring new processes and techniques to bring these materials to life. Students will then use what they’ve learned during the second week to express themselves through projects that encourage students to ask, “what story am I trying to tell?” Each session will culminate with a final exhibition where students can celebrate their hard work and personally share the narratives they’ve created with their family and friends.
Experimentation at the heart of each session. Experimentation, play, and curiosity are at the heart of everything we do. With each new material, students will be encouraged to explore the boundaries of their imagination and the possibilities of materials to express their artistic visions. A core principle of our programing at Lista studio is to give students the opportunities to learn from practicing artists, infusing the materials and techniques most personal to them into expansive opportunities for students to explore their own creativity. Over the course of the summer, artists will share lessons from their practices, spanning drawing, painting, mixed media sculpture, and fiber.
Some Projects will include:
- Paper arts: paper cutout creations, collage, and shadow animation
- Fabric painting, weaving, and soft sculptures
- Narrative acrylic paintings
- Wearable sculpture: bring a character to life using papier-mâché masks and cardboard wearables, culminating in a final performance!
